The remains of DC-3 VH-DAS being assembled into a crash diorama at Kuranda on 26 July 1984. It will be noted that this aircraft has a double door whereas VH-DAS had a single airliner type door. Evidently the movie makers cut a large door opening to create the appearance of a C-47. It has been reported that VH-DAS carried the fictitious serial "6903077" for the movie and this number can be seen on the fin of the aircraft in this photo. In October 1991, the wreck was inspected by Allan Vial who confirms that the rear fuselage is from VH-DAS as evidenced by the presence of the camera hatch and associated wiring looms for the camera position.
