Adastra's
Hangar 8 in 1940. Tiger Moth VH-UVZ was registered to Airflite Ltd.
on 12 August 1936. The aircraft crashed into Sydney Harbour on 21
April 1937 but was rebuilt and returned to service with Airflite in
February 1938. In August 1940 the aircraft was impressed by the RAAF
as A17-691. It survived the war and carried several civil registrations
before reverting to VH-UVZ. The aircraft is now in the collection
of the Temora Aviation Museum. The
photo was taken by Ruth Dunstan (nee Palmer) a nurse who started taking
flying lessons at Archerfield in 1938 with a view to becoming a flying
nurse. Sadly, late in 1938 she was told that flying lessons were available
only to men and her dream never eventuated. |
