R.C. 8 CHECK LIST (ROTARY SHUTTER)

BEFORE TAKE-OFF
1.
Inspect filter and the lower lens surface. If necessary, remove lower cover and clean inside filter and lens surface.
2.
Intervalometer to 'SERIES ON'
Remove camera top cover, and inside cover around lens.
3.
Check fiducial lights (4)
4.
Set altimeter and clock.
5.
'A-B' switch to 'A'
6.
Shutter switch to 'FAST' and switch on shutter.
Check that shutter is opening and aperture is circular.
7.
Replace inner cover, with white painted surface over the instruments.
8.
If necessary, clean upper lens surface.
9.
Set correct aperture setting.
10.
Set correct Fwd. overlap
11.
Set focal distance lever to 'Wide Angle'
12.
Check fuses.
13.
Check graticule movement in drift sight.
14.
Check all power lines screwed tight.
15.
Intervalometer 'off'
16.
Mount magazine
17.
Zero both counters.
18.
Intervalometer to 'SERIES ON' fire 5 blanks, ensuring that all indicators function properly and in correct sequence.
(Vacuum indicator will not register on the ground).
19.
Intervalometer off. O F F
AFTER TAKE-OFF
1.
Intervalometer to 'SERIES ON'
2.
Adjust Vacuum to 600
3.
Stop intervalometer half way through cycle and remove dark slide.
4.
Intervalometer to 'ON' and complete the cycle.
5.
Start the Shutter.
6.
Fire trail of 15 exposures (or as required). Readjust vacuum if necessary.
7.
Level the camera.

ON RUN IN
1.
Set drift and check with Navigator.
2.
Adjust graticule speed.
DURING PHOTOGRAPHY
Check
1.
Graticule speed
2.
Drift
3.
Camera level
4.
Black and white disc
5.
Exposure lights
6.
Shutter speed.
BETWEEN RUNS
1.
Note exposures and advise Navigator of film remaining.
2.
Fire blank exposure.
3.
Reset drift and graticule speed.
AFTER PHOTOGRAPHY
1.
Fire trail at altitude (about 25 exposures)
2.
Stop intervalometer half way through cycle and fit dark slide.
3.
Complete the cycle.
4.
Remove magazine and replace camera cover.
5.
Power off.
FOLLOWING IS THE SEQUENCE (3.5 SECS.)
when rotating pointers coincide:-

Green light and Pilot warning light come on.
Red light in drift sight.

If airborne - Vacuum to Zero during film transport.

Black and White Disc and Turning Handle revolve.

If airborne - Vacuum returns to 600. Shutter fires.
