The remains of DC-3 VH-DAS being assembled into a crash diorama at Kuranda on 26 July 1984. This view leaves no doubt that the port wing (shown slung from the crane) is from VH-DAS. Similarly, there can be no doubt that the forward fuselage is from VH-DAS as evidenced by the circular plate covering the location of the additional astrodome which was mounted aft of and slightly below the starboard cockpit sliding window (see enlargement below). This modification was unique to VH-DAS. In October 1991, the wreck was inspected by Allan Vial who confirms that the rear fuselage is from VH-DAS as evidenced by the presence of the camera hatch and associated wiring looms for the camera position.
